A private notebook
for serious thinking.

Solo Note is a native macOS notebook for work that should never leave your Mac. Every keystroke stays local. Every byte is encrypted at rest. Nothing is ever uploaded — not even to us.

● Requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later ● Apple silicon & Intel ● No account required

Built like the work is yours alone.

Solo Note was designed for notes that need to stay yours: client files, research, drafts, journals. It is offline by default, sandboxed, and encrypted on disk — so the contents of your notebook can't leak to a server, an analytics SDK, or anyone walking past your Mac with a USB drive.

🔐

Encrypted on disk

Every note, block, tag, and image is sealed with AES-256 before it touches your drive. Copy the database off your Mac and you get nothing.

✈︎

Offline by design

The app has no network code. The sandbox denies both client and server networking — no analytics, no crash uploads, no round trips.

Native macOS

SwiftUI shell with AppKit where it counts. Universal binary, fast, and at home on your Mac.

A real block editor

Paragraphs, headings, lists, todos, callouts, syntax-highlighted code, tables, quotes, dividers, images — sixteen block types, all rearrangeable.

Instant search

Quick Open searches every note's title and body the moment you start typing — ranked best-match-first.

📦

Encrypted backups

Bundle an entire notebook into a single password-protected .solonote file. Take it with you; share it without giving up its contents.

Zero network, by entitlement.

Solo Note doesn't ship with a server. It can't talk to one, even if you wanted it to — the App Sandbox entitlement file denies outbound networking. The same goes for contacts, camera, microphone, location, and AppleEvents.

  • No network access. Sandboxed without client or server entitlements.
  • No telemetry. No analytics SDKs, no crash reporters, no “phone home.”
  • No account, no password to remember. The encryption key lives in your Mac's secure Keychain, bound to this device.
  • Excluded from Spotlight and Time Machine. Your vault never indexes into places that might leak.
  • Pasteboard hygiene. Marks copied text concealed and auto-clears after 30 seconds.

A block editor that respects the keyboard.

Type / to summon any block. Hit ⌘B for bold, ⌥⌘↑ to rearrange, ⌘L to link to another note. Markdown shortcuts convert blocks inline as you type, and code blocks light up with syntax highlighting for 22 languages.

  • 16 block types including callouts, todos, tables, collapsibles, and code.
  • Rich inline runs — bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, inline code, color.
  • Per-block alignment, drag-handle reorder, duplicate, indent, outdent.
  • Focus mode centers the active block and dims the rest of the note.
  • Find in note with ⌘G / ⇧⌘G navigation.

Everything you'd expect — and a lot you wouldn't.

⌨︎

Command palette & Quick Open

⇧⌘K for any action, ⌘O for fuzzy note search.

Version history

Capture and restore earlier drafts of any note, stored locally and encrypted.

☑︎

Todos with due dates

Standalone lists, recurring tasks, and note-to-list mirroring so a checkbox shows up everywhere it should.

Spaces

Keep separate, fully isolated notebooks — Work, Personal, Research — and switch between them from the toolbar.

Tabbed editor

Open multiple notes at once with drag-to-reorder tabs.

🎨

15 themes, any font

Light and dark themes from Sepia to Nord to Dracula, plus any font installed on your Mac.
